Ribbon: Dark red with narrow yellow and black edges.

Instituted: 1833, Class 2 added in 1834.

Awarded: To Belgian citizens for serious wounds and bravery in battle during the fight for Belgian independence from the United Kingdom of the Netherlands between 25 August 1830 and 4 February 1831, the Class 2 award being for all wounded veterans - who subsequently received the Class 1 award in 1835.
