Instituted: 30 April 1956 as the Medal "For Bravery in Labour".
Renamed: 18 January 1965.
Discontinued: 1996.

Awarded: For courage in hostile working environments, fires, and floods to save life and property; for saving the life of others while risking great personal danger or death; and for preventing the eminent destruction of important machinery and equipment.
