      Instituted: 25 July 1892.
On 24 May 1894 extended to the Colonies of India, Canada, etc, as the Volunteer Officers' Decoration for India and the Colonies.
Discontinued in the UK: 1908, being replaced by the Efficiency Decoration, but continued in some Crown Dependencies until 1930.
      Awarded: To efficient and thoroughly capable officers of proven capacity for long and meritorious service in the part-time Volunteer Force of the United Kingdom.
