Ribbon: Crimson, or crimson with narrow pale blue centre stripes according to grade when ribbons only are worn.
Instituted: 1837 by the East India Company; became part of the British system of honours in 1859.
Discontinued: 1947.
Awarded: To Indian Army officers for distinguished or long and faithful service.
