UN Office of Scientific Investigation and Research

The UNOSIR was conceived during 2001 and formally established on 1st January, 2002. The purpose of this newest UN Office is to investigate and analyse current and historical events that defy conventional scientific explanation, in particular those that could be explained by the existence of 'extra-terrestrial' sentient life forms or other 'paranormal' events.

Although the existence of the UNOSIR has been made public, it has been decided at the highest levels that actual cases should remain confidential, for reasons including the privacy of individuals involved, the national security of UN member states and the well-being of the public. The decision to make the existence of UNOSIR public is so that referrals and reports of incidents likely to fall within their remit will be facilitated from governments, non-governmental organisations and private individuals.
