Scene 1: A Death

The following morning, early - about 0630hrs - there is a visitor at the UNOSIR building. This is Colonel Felix Iliych Suhailov of the Moscow Militia. He says that a murder has occurred in a laboratory at Moscow State University and there are some unusual aspects to the case. Perhaps members of the UNOSIR could be of assistance?

The murder victim is Yuri Nicholaevich Orlov of the A.N. Belozersky Research Institute of Physical and Chemical Biology, where he was a senior researcher in genetics. His remains were found in his laboratory, which is part of the Department of Molecular Basis of Ontogenesis.

His body was found by a visiting researcher, Dr Jack Eldon. Orlov and Eldon had been working together on a genetics experiment. Eldon had just entered the building and was speaking with the security guard, V.Y. Armentov, when the bells rang all over the city. They had then heard a banging and a horrible scream from the laboratory. When they got there, Orlov was dead, his apparatus was strewn around the room - looked like there had been an explosion - and there was a strange green gel on the walls especially around the ventilation duct. Armentov had immediately sealed the laboratory and summoned the police.
