Scene 5: The LabColonel Suhailov can get the characters into the laboratory, although neither Eldon nor the Institute's Director, Academician G.I. Lermonov, is very happy about it. Inside, the laboratory is a bit of a mess. There has been an explosion centred on one lab bench, shattered remains of plastic, metal and electronics remain. Someone with appropriate skills should be able to tell that it was an incubation chamber. There is more of the green sulphur-smelling slime all over it. A successful search will reveal what looks like a tooth under a microscope on a side bench. There is no computer here, and no lab notes can be found, however hard the characters look. While the characters are looking around, Eldon comes in. He asks that they leave, and takes a look at the central bench. Anyone observing will notice his face change as he looks at it. There is obviously a problem here. He then asks Colonel Suhailov if it is permissible to begin tidying up the laboratory, muttering something about there being a lot to do. The Colonel refuses, and Eldon leaves. When the characters depart, they find Taconui Gemina outside on her knees. She says that she is praying for the saint to reveal himself to her. Academician Lermonov is at first dubious, but after speaking with her permits her to remain. |
